A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Bullock County until 9:00 PM CDT today, October 8, 2026, with residents urged to prepare for hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes.
BULLOCK COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Bullock County, including Union Springs, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 12:59 PM CDT until 9:00 PM CDT.
Residents should prepare for hazardous wind, moderate flooding, and the potential for multiple tornadoes. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Act quickly to complete preparations before hazardous weather conditions begin.
The NWS forecasts peak winds between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, but potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. This could lead to limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken tree limbs and some power outages.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The situation is also favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, some of which could be intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should plan to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
