Tropical Storm Warning for Bullock County: Prepare for Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Bullock County by the NWS Birmingham, effective immediately, urging residents to prepare for high winds, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes until 6:30 PM CDT today.
BULLOCK COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Bullock County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. This warning includes Union Springs and remains in effect until 6:30 PM CDT today, October 9.
Residents should prepare for hazardous wind, potential flooding, and the possibility of a few tornadoes. Winds are forecast to reach 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph. Property protection efforts, such as securing loose items, should be completed immediately. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, potentially higher in some areas. Moderate flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Consider protective actions if you are in an area vulnerable to flooding.
The NWS also indicates a somewhat favorable situation for tornadoes. Emergency plans should include the potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. If your current shelter is vulnerable to tornadoes, plan to relocate to a safer location before hazardous weather arrives.
