Bullock County, including Union Springs, is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate action advised for hazardous winds, potential flooding, and tornadoes, effective until 9:30 AM CDT today.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Bullock County, including Union Springs, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, at 1:19 AM CDT. Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin and complete all property protection efforts as soon as possible.
Forecasters anticipate winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. This could cause damage to porches, sheds, unanchored mobile homes, and lead to broken tree limbs and some downed trees. Scattered power and communication outages are also possible. Hazardous driving conditions, especially on bridges, are expected.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. Moderate flooding is a potential risk, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and roads could become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
Furthermore, conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, with a potential for a few to be intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be prepared to shelter quickly. This alert is effective until 9:30 AM CDT today. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
