Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Bullock County: Prepare for High Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Bullock County until 12:15 PM CDT today, bringing hazardous winds, potential moderate flooding, and a risk of tornadoes, according to the NWS.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Bullock County, including Union Springs, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 4:08 AM CDT. The warning is set to expire at 12:15 PM CDT today.
Residents should prepare for hazardous wind speeds between 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts potentially reaching 40 mph. Efforts to secure property should be completed as soon as possible, and residents are advised to move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited damage to unanchored structures, large tree limbs, and some fences is possible. Scattered power and communications outages are also anticipated.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Moderate flooding is possible due to 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts. The NWS warns of potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers, creeks, and ditches may overflow, and some structures could be impacted by floodwaters. Driving conditions may become hazardous with some road closures possible.
The situation also presents a possibility for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. If your shelter is vulnerable, consider relocating to a safer location before hazardous weather arrives. Potential impacts include localized damage to buildings, downed trees, and disruptions to power and communications.
