Speech-language pathologists will have an opportunity to deepen their understanding of treating patients with aphasia during an upcoming educational event. The session, titled "Clinical Decision-Making for Spoken Expression and Auditory Comprehension in Aphasia," is scheduled for September 1, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

The event aims to equip professionals with enhanced knowledge and practical skills. Key objectives include identifying effective assessment tools for spoken expression and auditory comprehension in individuals with aphasia, exploring various treatment approaches, and understanding how to implement a Life Participation Approach to Aphasia. This approach emphasizes helping individuals with aphasia engage in life activities that are meaningful to them.

Leading the training will be Brett McCardel, MS, CCC-SLP, owner and founder of Archways - Aphasia Rehabilitation Services. McCardel, based in Seattle, WA, specializes in speech and language services for people with aphasia and has extensive experience across different care settings and service delivery models, including telehealth and intensive aphasia programs. He is a proponent of aphasia advocacy and the Life Participation Approach.

Attendees can choose to participate either in person at the Sanford East Interstate Ave Clinic, located at 1800 E. Interstate Ave. in Bismarck, North Dakota, or virtually via Zoom. The registration deadline for the event was Friday, September 18, and the cost to attend is $75.
