Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Tuscaloosa: Prepare for Winds and Flooding
Tuscaloosa is under a Tropical Storm Watch until October 9, 2026, with hazardous winds and moderate flooding expected; residents should prepare immediately.
Tuscaloosa residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous wind and moderate flooding as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the watch today, October 8, at 10:27 PM CDT, effective immediately until October 9, 2026, at 6:30 AM UTC.
Forecasts indicate peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect broken tree limbs, downed trees, and potential road impassibility due to debris. Scattered power and communication outages are also anticipated. Complete all property protection efforts now.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, leading to localized overspills. Be prepared for flood waters to enter structures, hazardous driving conditions, and road closures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
No tornadoes are expected. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
