Tuscaloosa residents should finalize preparations for hazardous winds and potential moderate flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Tuscaloosa County today, October 9, at 6:57 AM CDT.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Peak winds are forecast between 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, posing a threat of 39 to 57 mph winds. This could lead to damage to unsecured property, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. All efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

Rainfall amounts are predicted to be 2-4 inches, with localized higher totals. This carries a significant potential for moderate flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, and floodwaters may enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Driving conditions will become hazardous in affected areas.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. This alert is effective immediately and expires at 3:00 PM UTC today.
