Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Tuscaloosa: Prepare for High Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Tuscaloosa, effective immediately, with high winds up to 50 mph and potential for moderate flooding; residents should seek safe shelter and prepare for impacts.
TUSCALOOSA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Tuscaloosa, effective immediately as of October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT. Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
Peak wind gusts of up to 50 mph are forecast, with sustained winds between 15-25 mph. This poses a potential for limited damage to property, including porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible, especially on bridges.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and localized inundation can occur in low-lying areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. This Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect until October 10 at 6:00 AM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
