Tuscaloosa residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous wind and potential moderate flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Tuscaloosa at 1:19 AM CDT on October 9.

Winds are forecast to reach 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures, tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate rainfall flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues in vulnerable areas. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and some roads may become impassable. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

The NWS indicates the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes. The Tropical Storm Watch is effective immediately and expires at 9:30 AM UTC on October 9, 2026. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
