Pima County residents, particularly in the northeastern areas, are advised to seek immediate shelter indoors due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Tucson. The warning is in effect until 10:45 AM MST today, September 29.
A severe thunderstorm was detected near Kitt Peak at 9:57 AM MST, moving east at 30 mph. This storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and small hail. The NWS warns that impacts could include damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Affected locations include Three Points, Kitt Peak, San Pedro, and Pan Tak. This also includes portions of Route 86 between mile markers 131 and 158, and Route 286 between mile markers 35 and 45.
Residents are instructed to seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. While not currently indicated, the NWS advises that tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms, and if this occurs, individuals should seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built structure. Torrential rainfall is also occurring, which may lead to flash flooding; do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
