Pilot Dies in Aircraft Crash on Columbia Blvd, Titusville

TITUSVILLE – A pilot died when a single-engine aircraft crashed on Columbia Boulevard on Monday, September 7, closing the roadway for hours. The crash occurred near Space Coast Regional Airport (KTIX) at approximately 10:16 a.m.

The aircraft struck a power line before crashing onto the boulevard, just short of airport property. Titusville firefighters extinguished the resulting fire. Florida Power & Light estimated repairs and service restoration would take several hours.

Titusville Police Department detectives are investigating the death. The pilot's identity has not been released pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. Agencies assisting with the response included the Titusville Fire Department, Titusville Police Department, Brevard County Fire Rescue, Space Coast Regional Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, and the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Titusville Police managed traffic control and provided updates via social media during the road closure.
