Titusville Resident Rhett Murphy, Vietnam Vet, Dies at 76

Marion L. Murphy, a decorated Vietnam War veteran and Titusville resident known to many as "Rhett," died Sept. 4, 2026. He was 76.

Murphy served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1971, achieving the rank of LCP1. His service included tours in the Vietnam War, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/1*, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/Device, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and the Purple Heart Medal.

After his discharge, Murphy worked as a craftsman in custom woodworking and iron work. He also worked for Sea Ray Boats for many years after relocating to Florida. He enjoyed his craft and dedicated time to his family and friends.

Murphy is survived by his nephew, Chris Fletcher; his daughter, Miranda Murphy; his grandchildren; and numerous nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy M. Murphy; his father, Marcellus P. Murphy; his sister, Loyola Murphy; and his son, Rhett M. Murphy.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, at North Brevard Funeral Home, 1450 Norwood Ave., Titusville. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 359.
