Galliano Health Unit Reopens With Hurricane-Resistant Design
Lafourche Parish officials reopened the Galliano Health Unit this week, completing a $3.5 million reconstruction after Hurricane Ida destroyed the original facility in 2021.
The new 7,300-square-foot building withstands hurricane-force winds and includes exam rooms, a laboratory, vaccine and immunization areas, and space for a community disease interventionist. The facility houses the Nurse Family Partnership program, which serves first-time mothers with WIC assistance and reproductive health services, and provides a second location for the Lafourche Brief Therapy Program.
The health unit serves South Lafourche residents with preventive care, immunizations, and health education programs.
