High Rip Current Risk for Galveston and Bolivar Peninsula
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect for Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula until late tonight, with a Coastal Flood Advisory also issued until 7 PM CDT for minor coastal flooding.
Residents and visitors on Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula are advised of a High Rip Current Risk in effect until late tonight, October 10, at 1:00 AM CDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) Houston/Galveston TX has issued this statement, warning of dangerous rip currents that can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening, October 9. Minor coastal flooding is expected, potentially impacting low-lying areas, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible.
If you must travel, allow extra time and do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take action to protect flood-prone property.
For beachgoers, swim near a lifeguard and avoid swimming near rocks, jetties, and piers. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and signal for help.
