Tropical Storm Warning for Terrell: Prepare for High Winds, Flooding, Tornadoes
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Terrell, including Dawson, by NWS Tallahassee, urging immediate preparation for high winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes until 6:15 AM EDT.
TERRELL – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Terrell, effective immediately. Residents in Dawson and surrounding areas should prepare for hazardous conditions including high winds, major flooding, and the potential for multiple tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Warning means tropical storm force winds (39 to 57 mph) are possible. Peak wind forecasts are 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, however, the potential exists for winds between 39-57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Act now to complete preparations, as limited damage to porches, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break, and scattered power and communications outages.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rain expected. This could lead to major flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow banks rapidly. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Flood waters may enter structures, and roads could become impassable.
The situation is also favorable for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings; be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Significant impacts from tornadoes could include damage to homes, power loss, and dangerous projectiles.
This warning was issued on October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT and expires at 6:15 AM EDT. For more information, visit the NWS Tallahassee at weather.gov/tallahassee or the Georgia Emergency Management Agency at ready.ga.gov.
