YMCA Wabash Valley Expansion Breaks Ground

YMCA Breaks Ground on Wabash Valley Expansion

Mayor Brandon Sakbun, Park Superintendent Kilie Smith, and state and county officials gathered Thursday at Fairbanks Park to break ground on the YMCA of the Wabash Valley's renovation and expansion project.

The Wabash Valley Community Foundation funded phase two. State Senator Greg Goode and other representatives submitted letters supporting additional funding requests. Designers from Riverscape and RJL Solutions attended the ceremony.

The project will expand the YMCA facility and enhance the riverfront along the Wabash River, adding space for recreation, wellness programs, and community activities for families and seniors. City officials described it as part of broader riverfront development efforts in Terre Haute.

The YMCA is seeking donations to complete phase three of the expansion. The organization hopes to finish all planned work at once rather than in stages. Construction began immediately following the ceremony.
