Terre Haute Wins 28th Tree City USA Award
Staff Writer
June 11, 2026
Terre Haute earned its 28th consecutive Tree City USA designation, recognizing the city's commitment to urban forest management and tree preservation.
The national award requires communities to maintain a tree board, dedicate funding to forestry programs, and observe Arbor Day. Jesse Tohill, the city's Director of Public Works, accepted the recognition alongside Urban Forester Ana Maria Erazo Galeano and Ann Ryan of TREE's Inc., a local nonprofit partner.
Urban forestry reduces energy costs, manages stormwater, increases property values, and provides shade and green spaces for residents.
