Terre Haute Street Paving: $3.1M Plan for 60+ Roads

Staff Writer

Terre Haute to Pave 60+ Streets in $3.1 Million 2026 Plan

Terre Haute will repave more than 60 streets in 2026 using $3.1 million in state grants, gaming revenue, and local funds.

The city's paving schedule targets downtown and residential neighborhoods. Downtown work includes 1st Street from Cherry to Locust, Locust Street from 1st to 3rd, Chestnut Street from 1st to 3rd, and the 2nd Street corridor from Sycamore to Canal.

The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, a partnership between the Indiana Department of Transportation and local governments, funds most of the work. Additional funding comes from EDIT allocations, gaming revenue, and right-of-way fees.

Residential projects span multiple neighborhoods. The Country Club area will see pavement on Country Club Road from Wabash Avenue to Phoenix Drive, plus Phoenix Drive, Phoenix Court, and related streets. Dobbs Glen will receive work on Dobbs Glen Street, Dobbsdell Street, and Hollowbrook Court. The Robinwood area includes Robinwood Lane from Wabash Avenue to US 40, plus Bluebird Lane, Wren Road, and Bluebird Hill.

The city will also repave Brown Avenue from Margaret Avenue to its dead end, Helen Avenue, Drexmore Road, Avalon Drive, Winthrop Road, and Deming Street from 13th to 19th streets. Work in other neighborhoods includes the Margaret-Wheeler avenue cluster, the Carl Avenue corridor, and four cul-de-sacs on 29th through 32nd streets.

The city plans to widen 19th Street from Wabash Avenue to Chestnut and conduct pavement preservation on Fruitridge Avenue and Poplar Street.
