Fort Pierce Avenue D $3M Infrastructure Project Begins

Staff Writer
June 11, 2026

Fort Pierce officials broke ground Monday on a $3 million infrastructure project that will resurface 1.6 miles of Avenue D from 29th Street to U.S. 1.

Workers will reconstruct ADA-compliant ramps, repair sidewalks and driveways, install vehicle detection systems at traffic signals, and add enhanced pedestrian crosswalks. The project includes updated signage, pavement markings, and a new overhead gateway sign welcoming visitors to historic Lincoln Park.

The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency contributed $1.5 million. State legislative funding provided another $1.5 million, with local Infrastructure Surtax funds covering the remainder.

Contractors expect substantial completion by late November 2026, weather permitting. Installation of the gateway sign will extend beyond the primary construction schedule.

The city will maintain access for residents, businesses, and emergency services throughout construction. Drivers should expect temporary lane closures and follow posted traffic control measures.

The Avenue D project marks the first phase of improvements outlined in the Lincoln Park Master Plan. The city and FPRA are developing the master plan to guide long-term redevelopment priorities for the neighborhood.
