Tampa City Council to Hold Public Hearing on $2.04 Billion FY2027 Budget Next Week

Tampa residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on the city’s proposed $2.04 billion fiscal year 2027 budget and capital improvement program during a public hearing on Tuesday, September 22, at 5:01 p.m.

This hearing allows citizens to directly address the City Council regarding how the city plans to allocate its funds, impacting everything from wastewater services to community redevelopment. Understanding the budget’s details helps residents see how their tax dollars contribute to local services and infrastructure projects.

The hearing will take place at City Council Chambers in Old City Hall, located at 315 E. Kennedy Blvd. For those unable to attend in person, virtual participation is available. Residents wishing to speak virtually must pre-register at least 24 hours in advance by visiting tampa.gov/PublicComment. Speakers should indicate their request under “Request Type” to receive instructions for virtual access.

The proposed budget totals $2.04 billion. Before deductions for transfers, reserves, and internal charges of $425.4 million, the total gross budget stands at $2.47 billion. The general fund accounts for $731.3 million of the appropriated budget.

Significant allocations include $401.2 million for wastewater operations, making it the largest enterprise fund. Water operations will receive $380.6 million. Other key areas include $171.7 million for self-insurance and $163.6 million for solid waste. Debt service funds total $60.3 million, while community redevelopment agency programs will secure $94.3 million. Utilities services tax accounts for $96.9 million.

Copies of the proposed budget are available for review online at tampagov.net/budget and in person at the City Clerk’s Office, located on the third floor of Old City Hall. The office operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding city holidays.
