Clearwater City Council unanimously approved moving forward with a $180 million sports and entertainment complex at The Landings Golf Course on Wednesday, greenlighting negotiations with developer Porter Development.

The project would replace the 77-acre, city-owned golf course with pickleball courts, volleyball courts, and a water park. Council members hope the facility will attract youth sports tournaments and draw families to the area.

"Some residents, they are afraid of noise pollution, and what we hear instead are children playing," said resident Alexandria Goodin.

Neighbors including Melissa Stamos, co-founder of Keep Keene Green, raised concerns about stadium lights, parking overflow, and potential flooding. The group plans to remain involved as the project advances.

Wednesday's vote permits city officials to begin negotiations with Porter Development but does not grant final approval for construction. Further studies and approvals are required.

Never delete anything, that’s my motto. As a digital hoarder, I have a modest 279 unread text messages and 158,960 emails. I can tell you about, nay, show you the interior of the plush West Palm Beach digs where two of Florida’s utility regulators soaked up an…
