Invest 99L Threatens Atlantic: Tropical Storm Potential

Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center are closely monitoring Invest 99L, an Atlantic Ocean system showing increased organization and a growing potential to become the season's next named storm. As of Friday, Sept. 19, 2026, the system has a 60% chance of tropical development over the next two days. Meteorologists report Invest 99L could organize into a tropical depression as early as Friday. If sustained winds reach tropical storm strength, the disturbance will be named Tropical Storm Fay.

Forecasters have stopped tracking Invest 98L, a separate disturbance monitored earlier this week that did not organize.
