Tampa Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that killed an elderly pedestrian Wednesday evening, Oct. 7, 2026, on North Nebraska Avenue near East Lambright Street. Officers responded just before 8:30 p.m. amid heavy rain.
A man in his early 70s, who was in a wheelchair, was crossing North Nebraska Avenue when a northbound 2011 silver Hyundai Sonata struck him. The driver, a woman in her mid-20s, was in the inside lane and did not see the pedestrian in time to avoid the collision.
The impact ejected the man from his wheelchair and caused critical injuries. He died from his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. The wheelchair landed in the southbound lanes and was struck by a second vehicle, a 2021 dark-colored Hyundai Sonata.
Both drivers stopped immediately and are cooperating with investigators. Preliminary findings do not indicate speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
