The Tama County Zoning Board of Adjustment is established to hear and decide appeals from any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by the Zoning Administrator in the enforcement of the Tama County Zoning Ordinance. The Board also has the power to grant variances from the strict application of the Zoning Ordinance where it is shown that unnecessary hardship would result from such strict application. The Board meets on a regular basis, typically monthly, and its meetings are open to the public. Agendas and minutes of the Zoning Board of Adjustment meetings are made available for public inspection.

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL RECEIVE NOMINATIONS FOR THE COMPENSATION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE MUNICIPAL UTILITY OF THE CITY OF TRAER AT THEIR REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING on January 12, 2005. Any person interested in serving on the Board of Directors may be nominated at this time.

The Tama County Zoning Department is responsible for issuing all building permits, septic system permits, and ensures compliance with all zoning ordinances. The Zoning Department also manages land use and development within the unincorporated areas of the county. The department is also involved in flood plain management and issues permits in the flood plain. The department also provides guidance and assistance to the public regarding subdivisions, zoning districts, and any related questions. Administers and enforces the Tama County Zoning Ordinance. Provides technical assistance and advice to the Board of Supervisors, Board of Adjustment, and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Processes and issues permits for dwellings, garages, accessory structures, commercial and industrial structures, and septic systems in the unincorporated areas of Tama County. Processes and issues permits in the Flood Plain in the unincorporated areas of Tama County. Receives, reviews, and forwards to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Supervisors all applications for subdivision plats.
