Tallassee Council Approves Police Vehicle Lease & Zoning
The Tallassee City Council approved a police vehicle lease, two storage facility projects and a bakery rezoning at its April 28 meeting.
Police Chief Buce requested permission to switch from Unified to Bancorp for an eight-vehicle lease after Unified failed to deliver six approved vehicles due to an aluminum factory fire. The Bancorp lease costs less than the original agreement and allows the city to purchase each vehicle for $1 after five years. Council members voted unanimously to approve.
The council approved construction of storage facilities at Yesac and behind 1220. Councilmember Fred Randall Hughey moved to approve both projects, which the Planning Commission had already endorsed.
Rodney Griffith won approval to rezone 210 N Ann Ave from R2 to neighborhood business conditional for a bakery. The Planning Commission had approved the rezoning request.
Jeff Harrison with Three Notch Group presented the 2025 MWPP Resolution, reporting the city remains in compliance with ADEM. Council members approved the annual report and an agreement with Three Notch Group for a CDBG water project.
Council members tabled a demolition resolution until May 12 after requesting City Attorney John Smith add language to place liens on properties the city tears down.
Mayor Joey Wiginton said no location has been decided for a proposed data center. He said experts will discuss the project at a future meeting. He also announced a Japanese restaurant will open in May at the former Pizza Hut location.
Councilmember Easterling Carpenter reported the Mill will begin operations within three to four weeks.
