Sign up for Bmail and more

Besides the city website, the City of Biloxi uses a variety of convenient avenues to keep you informed with timely advisories and news about city issues and events of community interest.  It only takes you a minute to sign up and they’re all free. There’s Bmail, our e-news service that is delivered to you three or four times a week. There’s the texting service that gives you timely advisories on traffic issues and other relevant info. There’s Facebook, which is an archive of city photos, videos and other information; the B-Alert texting service; BTV: Biloxi Television, available on cable and online; and there’s the city’s YouTube channel, which offers dozens of videos that include City Council meetings, presentations by the mayor, videos about Biloxi history and customs and more. For a look at recent Bmail transmissions, click here. Here’s where to sign up for Bmail Email:  You’ll be asked to confirm after you hit Go.Facebook: To visit the city’s Facebook page, click here. While there, “Like” the page, and make sure to enable Notifications, and, most importantly, that City of Biloxi posts show up first in your newsfeed. By the way, the city also has Facebook pages for the Biloxi Fire Department, Biloxi Police Department, Biloxi Visitors Center and for a host of other city facilities and programs. Text alerts: The city offers a free texting service that transmits traffic advisories and other information you need on the go. To sign up for B-Alerts, on your cell phone, text BILOXI to 99411. It’s free and we use it only when needed. If you ever want to discontinue the service, just reply STOP. To learn more about the service and see previous text messages, click here. BTV: Biloxi Television: In Biloxi, the city’s municipal TV station is carried on Sparklight (Channel 56). It is also available for anyone, anywhere at biloxi.ms.us/btv, where you’ll also find replays of City Council meetings, Biloxi A to Z, “Biloxi Cooks!”, and other public affairs programming. The recorded message is updated as needed. It also includes notifications to city employees about any work schedule changes. BNews Monthly: The U.S. Postal Service delivers the city’s full-color monthly newsletter to all homes, businesses, apartments, and PO boxes in Biloxi by the first of each month. Prepare for river flooding, Gilich warns April 28, 2016 Biloxi Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich says residents in low-lying areas, especially those near the Biloxi and Wolf rivers, should make plans for rising river levels, and those throughout Biloxi should remember that more rain may be expected later in the day. Areas of Biloxi sustained as much as 10 inches of rainfall this morning in an early morning deluge that flooded most city streets and all low-lying areas. The police and fire departments received 170 emergency calls between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., generating 79 calls for service, mostly involving stranded motorists, stalled vehicles or impassible roads. During the height of the storm, Police Chief John Miller had 53 officers on patrol, three times more than normally on Biloxi streets. Additionally, the Biloxi Fire Department’s two highwater rescue teams worked with police to respond in heavy all-terrain military vehicles to assist stranded motorists. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources also has trailered vessels on standby at Fire Station 9 in the west Eagle Point community. “Our emergency responders and our Public Works crews did an excellent job and are continuing to do so,” Gilich said. “Right now, as water has receded from our major roadways, we are clearing storm drains of any debris that might be compromising our drainage systems. “The fact is, no system can handle the amount of water that we saw, but we have to make sure we’re doing everything we can do. Our job is to protect life and property, and we appreciate the public’s cooperation and and patience.” At mid-morning, police asked motorists to limit traffic on roadways. There are no reports of loss of life or injuries. The Biloxi and Wolf rivers, meantime, remain a concern for first responders. “I fully expect to see these rivers to begin rising,” Police Chief Miller said. “We are asking people in low-lying areas to take necessary precautions now, to consider your options.” Emergency Management leaders say the Biloxi River, which has a flood stage of 12 feet, is expected to crest Friday morning at 16.5 feet. The Wolf River, which has a flood stage of 8 feet, is expected to crest Friday morning at 10.5 feet.
