A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Talladega and Sylacauga, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL. Residents should act now to complete preparations as hazardous wind and moderate flooding are expected.
The watch was issued at 6:57 AM CDT today, October 9th, and is set to expire at 3:00 PM UTC. Peak wind forecasts are 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for winds between 39-57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect many large tree limbs to break, some trees to snap, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Anticipate 1-3 inches of rain, with localized higher amounts, bringing a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams could overflow. Floodwaters may enter structures and cause road closures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
