Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Talladega, Sylacauga: Prepare for Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Talladega and Sylacauga, urging residents to prepare for hazardous winds up to 57 mph and potential moderate flooding, according to the NWS.
TALLADEGA, AL – Residents in Talladega and Sylacauga are urged to finalize preparations immediately as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective October 9 at 4:08 AM CDT. The watch is in effect until 12:15 PM CDT today.
Forecasters anticipate winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break and some trees to snap or uproot, potentially making a few roads impassable due to debris. Scattered power and communication outages are also possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Peak rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, could lead to moderate flooding. Rivers and tributaries may quickly swell, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
While the tornado threat has decreased and tornadoes are not expected, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds are still possible. Continue to monitor forecasts for updates. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
