Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Talbot: Prepare for High Winds, Flooding, Tornadoes
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Talbot County, including Talbotton, by the NWS, warning of high winds up to 45 mph, 2-4 inches of rain with potential for moderate flooding, and several tornadoes, urging residents to complete preparations immediately.
Talbot County residents, including Talbotton, are urged to finalize preparations as the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA has issued a Tropical Storm Watch, effective October 9 at 4:43 AM EDT. The watch indicates a future threat of severe weather, including potential tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding rain, and several tornadoes.
High winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures and significant tree limb breakage are possible. Power and communication outages are also a risk. Residents should complete efforts to protect property immediately.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain forecast, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, causing evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and roads could become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safer shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. This alert is effective until October 9 at 12:45 PM UTC.
