Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Talbot County; Prepare for High Winds, Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Talbot County, including Talbotton, with warnings for high winds, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes. Residents should complete all preparations immediately.
TALBOT COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Talbot County, including Talbotton, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, effective October 8 at 5:17 PM EDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm conditions are possible within the specified area.
Residents are urged to complete all preparations immediately. Winds are forecast to be 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39-57 mph. This could lead to limited damage to property, including porches, awnings, and sheds. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot, potentially causing scattered power and communications outages and making some roads impassable.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This poses a potential for moderate flooding, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may swell, and floodwaters could enter structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a potential for significant impacts, including considerable damage and power loss. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued.
The Tropical Storm Watch is set to expire on October 9, 2026, at 1:30 AM UTC.
