Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Worth County: Act Now!
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Worth County, including Sylvester and Warwick, until early Saturday, with immediate action required due to hazardous winds, major flooding potential, and a significant tornado threat.
WORTH COUNTY, GA – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Worth County, including Sylvester and Warwick, effective immediately, October 9, at 5:05 PM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. The warning is in effect until October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC.
Residents are urged to complete all preparations now before hazardous winds begin. Peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are forecast. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect broken tree limbs, potential uprooted trees, and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, could lead to major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. Floodwaters can make roads impassable and enter structures. Do not drive through flooded areas.
The NWS also indicates conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter now. Significant tornado damage is possible, including power loss and communication failures.
