Delta Boosts Atlanta Hub with Riyadh Nonstop, Eyes Global Growth
Delta Air Lines, headquartered in Atlanta, announced plans for its inaugural nonstop service from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport (RUH), beginning Oct. 23, 2026. The route targets growing U.S.-Saudi commerce and investment, strengthening economic ties. Hartsfield-Jackson, which handled 104.7 million passengers in 2023 and retained its title as the world's busiest airport, stands to gain further from Delta's expansion.
This Riyadh flight anchors Delta's aggressive international push from Atlanta, alongside other new long-haul additions like service to Hong Kong starting June 6, 2026, and Porto beginning May 21, 2026. The airline also plans Grenada (GND) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVD) from ATL in 2026, plus Vancouver (YVR), enhancing connectivity for Georgia's 11 million residents and business travelers. These routes build on recent launches, including Marrakech, Morocco, with three weekly flights ramping up from late October 2025.
The expansion bolsters Atlanta's economy, where Delta employs over 30,000 workers and contributes billions annually through hub operations. Hartsfield-Jackson drives 63,000 jobs in Georgia, with international traffic surging post-pandemic. Delta's moves come amid its record transatlantic schedule for summer 2026, operating over 650 weekly Europe flights from U.S. hubs, indirectly benefiting ATL's feeder network.
Local leaders hailed the news, with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens noting in past statements how such routes attract investment to the Southeast. As Delta maps more pins globally—including Melbourne from December 2025—these services position Georgia at the crossroads of world trade, from Middle Eastern oil hubs to Asian tech centers.
