Delta Boosts Atlanta Hub with Africa Routes to Marrakech, Accra
Delta Air Lines, headquartered in Atlanta, announced two new Africa routes from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to bolster its global network amid rising demand. The airline will launch its first-ever service to Marrakech, Morocco, with three weekly flights beginning Oct. 25, followed by seasonal daily service to Accra, Ghana, starting Dec. 1. These additions bring Delta's international destinations from Atlanta to 67 as it celebrates its centennial in 2025.
The expansion aligns with Georgia's growing economic interests in Africa, where nations like Morocco and Ghana are forging deeper ties with the state through trade and investment. Hartsfield-Jackson, already the world's busiest airport, handles Delta's massive hub operations, employing thousands in metro Atlanta and fueling local tourism and business travel. Marrakech flights ramp up to daily during the December holidays starting Dec. 19, while the Atlanta-Anchorage, Alaska, route transitions to year-round service to meet seasonal surges.
Delta's push reflects broader network growth, including future long-haul additions like Atlanta to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, starting Oct. 23, 2026, and resumed service to Tel Aviv from Atlanta on April 15, 2026. These routes operated on widebody aircraft like the A350-900 enhance premium options for Georgia travelers. Local leaders hailed the news, noting how expanded connectivity strengthens Atlanta's role as a Southeast gateway to Africa and beyond.
