Hamilton Launches Adaptive Sports League for Students

The Hamilton School District and Oak Creek-Franklin School District launched the Southeastern Wisconsin Adaptive Sports League this school year, offering competitive sports to high school students with disabilities.
The league fielded its first indoor baseball season in May, with teams from Hamilton and Oak Creek competing in four games. Coaches Dylan Bolin, Melissa Kappeler and John Roubik led the inaugural team.
"Every single day they continue to amaze me with their athleticism, their passion and their joy for the game," Bolin said.
The league offers three seasonal sports: indoor soccer in fall, bowling in spring and indoor baseball.
Parents credited the program with building confidence and community among their children. "It gives Jeffrey a sense of belonging, opportunities to make friends and a safe space to grow through teamwork and shared experiences," said Justine Jie Liu, whose son Jeffrey plays for Hamilton.
Hamilton freshman Connor Schultz beams with pride wearing his Charger uniform, said his mother Jenny Schultz. "Being part of the ASL has allowed Connor to develop friendships and a strong sense of belonging to the school community."
Hamilton Athletics and Activities Director Jeff Newcomer said the support from the community has been strong. "This league is about more than sports," he said. "It's about opportunity, inclusion and community."
Assistant Superintendent of Special Services John Peterson worked to establish the league. The district plans to welcome additional school districts in future seasons.
