Key Biscayne Street Safety: New Patrols & Lights

Key Biscayne is expanding street safety efforts through police patrols and infrastructure projects across the island.

The Police Department patrols neighborhoods, parks, and commercial areas to protect pedestrians and cyclists. Officers coordinate with Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami to manage traffic on the Rickenbacker Causeway during beach season.

Public Works launched a Village-wide Streetlight Coverage Project to assess every streetlight on the island and identify gaps in coverage. The department will upgrade lights to improve nighttime visibility.

Spring roadway work is scheduled for Knollwood Drive, North Mashta Drive, South Mashta Drive, Cypress Drive, and Cranwood Drive. Crews will repave roads and reshape surfaces to improve drainage and reduce flooding.

Public Works will replace aging speed tables and speed bumps with modern designs that meet Miami-Dade County standards. The new devices will use durable materials and provide smoother transitions for vehicles, with priority given to the most deteriorated locations.

Police remind drivers to watch for pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrians and cyclists should cross at marked crosswalks.
