Hallandale Beach will mark its 99th anniversary on May 14, 2026.

Railroad magnate Henry Flagler recruited Luther Halland to establish a settlement south of Dania in the late 19th century. Halland, along with Swedish immigrant Olaf Zetterlund, promoted the area's frost-free climate and affordable land.

Halland built a trading post and became the community's first postmaster. The settlement, initially named Halland, later became Hallandale. Early residents farmed the area and used the beach for recreation.
