Call Yancey County Sheriff's Department at(828) 682-2124 Ask to speak to the on-call social work supervisor about making a chile protective services report. In-Home Services are legally mandated and provided to families who have had a substantiation of abuse, neglect or dependency or a finding of in need of services due to safety issues. The goals of these services are to maintain the safety of children; to strengthen the family's capacity to protect and nurture its children; and to maintain children in their own families. Adoption services are designed to find permanent homes for foster children and to provide support to the families who adopt them. An adoption provides children with legal permanence in safe, loving home. Foster care is temporary substitute care for children who cannot remain safely in their home as determined by the Court. Child placement services shall be provided to any child in the custody or placement responsibility of a County Department of Social Services/ Health and Human Services Agency. Placement of a child in foster care requires assessment of the child and family's needs and careful planning. Child placement needs are evaluated, arranged, maintained and supervised in licensed or Court-sanctioned placement, with services to assist in reunification or another permanent plan for the child. The agency provides services in conjunction with the community and are community-based, culturally competent, child centered and family focused. After a report is screened in for allegations of abuse, neglect or dependency, it is assigned as a Family Assessment or a CPS Investigation. A social worker looks into the allegations but also assesses the environmental, medical, physical, mental health, educational and emotional needs that keep children safe. Other people with helpful information may be contacted for their input during this process. Family input, resources and safety planning are very important in keeping children safe. The purpose is to see if there is evidence of abuse, neglect, or dependency and identify needs in the home that affect child safety. Yancey County Government110 Town SquareBurnsville, NC 28714
