Temple STHM Launches New Communication Guide for Families

The School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) knows communication is important for a successful transition to college. We strive to provide you with information and tools to navigate within the university community.

The School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) knows communication is important for a successful transition to college. We strive to provide you with information and tools to navigate within the university community. Temple University will communicate via email with your student directly. Your student can designate a family member as a FERPA-waived contact for a university official to disclose academic information. To designate a FERPA-waived contact, your student should follow these steps. Students commonly grant family members proxy access to their personal information. Students can set up multiple proxies, granting each different access depending upon who they are. To designate a proxy, your student should follow these steps. That said, the STHM has ways to regularly communicate with parents and families. We recommend that you subscribe to the STHM Update, a monthly newsletter with select articles and events of special interest to prospective and current parents. Read a recent issue. Recommended Reading As your student prepares for the college transition, read how these STHM students found their communities within STHM and thrived: 29+ reasons for the Class of 2029 Washington, DC native Kiara Brown transferred to Temple as a tourism and hospitality major. Brown was able to bring together the ingredients she needed for success onto the screen as a host of “Feel Good Cooking,” a TUTV cooking show. Ezekiel Cartwright attended Temple Rome during his spring semester. Utilizing a Temple Education Abroad Global Green Grant, Cartwright launched a sustainability project while in Rome to reuse and/or donate clothing and sporting goods. Sport and recreation management major Amanda Scheuerman, is a member of the Temple Owls gymnastics team. From Old Bridge, NJ, Scheuerman shares key insights to the student-athlete experience at STHM, including the benefits she’s found through the school’s advisors.
