New Cleveland Road Roundabout Opens Ahead of Cedar Point Season; Safety Project Continues Through Fall

The City of Sandusky announced that crews opened the new roundabout at Cleveland Road and Cedar Point Drive to traffic Thursday afternoon, May 7, ahead of Cedar Point's opening day on Saturday, May 9. While the roundabout is open, finishing work continues in the coming weeks. Permanent signs, light poles, and pedestrian crossing signals have not yet been installed. Digital message signs are in place directing drivers to follow the pavement markings through the intersection. Construction on Cleveland Road continues beyond the roundabout as well. Crews are working on curbing, drainage, sidewalks, resurfacing, and new traffic signals at other locations along the corridor. Paving east of the roundabout is expected to wrap up Friday, May 8. No significant delays for drivers are expected from this ongoing work. Drivers are asked to slow down, yield to traffic already in the roundabout, and follow all pavement markings and signage. The roundabout is part of the Cleveland Road Safety Improvement Project, which addresses six intersections along Cleveland Road (US-6) within Sandusky city limits. The full project is expected to be complete in fall 2026. For updates, visit www.cityofsandusky.com/clevelandroad.
