Residents in Sumter, Coastal Citrus, Coastal Hernando, Inland Citrus, and Inland Hernando counties should seek shelter indoors immediately due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL.

Strong thunderstorms are tracking north at 40 mph, with radar indicating wind gusts up to 50 mph. This alert is effective immediately, October 9, 2026, at 5:00 PM EDT, and is expected to expire at 5:45 PM EDT.

The NWS reports that these gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations that may be impacted include Brooksville, Inverness, Crystal River, Bushnell, Homosassa Springs, Beverly Hills, and surrounding communities.
