Protect Tender Plants: Frost Expected Overnight in Mountain Valleys
Protect your sensitive outdoor plants tonight, as the National Weather Service warns of patchy frost expected in mountain valleys across several counties, with temperatures dropping into the low to mid-30s.
Residents in Northwest Nicholas, Southeast Nicholas, Northwest Webster, Southeast Webster, Northwest Pocahontas, Southeast Pocahontas, Northwest Randolph, and Southeast Randolph counties should take steps now to protect sensitive outdoor vegetation.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, WV, has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of patchy frost development overnight, effective immediately and expiring at 12:00 AM UTC on September 26, 2026. Clear skies and calm winds are expected to lead to efficient cooling, dropping temperatures into the mid-30s across typical mountain valley cold spots, with isolated locations possibly reaching the low-30s.
Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered. To protect tender plants from the cold, residents should cover them or bring them indoors.
