Schedule changes on US 16/20/Wyoming 789 highway improvement project between Worland and Manderson

WORLAND, Wyo – The prime contractor for highway improvements on US Highway 16/20/789, including sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act repairs in Worland, has adjusted its work schedule for the 2026-27 project.

WORLAND, Wyo – The prime contractor for highway improvements on US Highway 16/20/789, including sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act repairs in Worland, has adjusted its work schedule for the 2026-27 project. Prime contractor is McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co., of Worland. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2027. "Concrete work has been rescheduled for March 2027," said Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer Kelly Erickson of Thermopolis. "The contractor plans to pave this fall north of the Worland city limits between mileposts 168.82 and 176.69, beginning in mid-October." "Paving will continue as long as fall weather holds," Erickson said. Scope of work on the $6.57 million project includes asphalt milling and an asphalt pavement overlay, chip sealing, ADA improvements, repairing and replacing concrete sidewalk and curb and gutter, and installing a roadway lighting system on 10.9 miles of US 16/20/Wyoming Highway 789. The project's starting point is milepost 165.76, the intersection of U.S. 16 and U.S. 20/Wyoming Highway 789 adjacent to the Washakie County Courthouse in Worland. Erickson said new intersection light poles will be installed next spring at the US 20 intersections of Washakie County Road 10 and County Road 12. Weekly public meetings will resume in the spring at McGarvin-Moberly's office south of Worland, 1001 US Highway 20 North. "We will hold weekly public meetings while concrete work is happening within the Worland city limits, beginning in the spring," said Erickson. Erickson said local contractors are heavily involved in the Worland North project, and the contractors will work with citizens and businesses as much as possible to minimize any traffic delays. The project was originally scheduled to begin July 9. "We appreciate everyone's patience with the delayed start," Erickson said.
