Fort Pierce Inlet State Park Water Advisory Lifted
The Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County lifted a water quality advisory for Fort Pierce Inlet State Park on June 3 after tests showed Enterococcus bacteria levels dropped to safe ranges.
Water samples collected June 1 at the kayak launch area, 905 Shorewinds Drive, confirmed bacterial counts fell below the threshold that triggered the warning. The site now meets state water quality guidelines.
Health officials issued the advisory after elevated bacteria posed health risks to swimmers and paddlers. Enterococcus bacteria can cause gastrointestinal illness and skin infections through water contact.
Recreational users can resume normal water activities at the park, which occupies the northern tip of Hutchinson Island where the Indian River Lagoon meets the Atlantic Ocean.
Test results are available on the DOH-St. Lucie website. For current water quality information, residents can call 772-462-3800 or visit StLucie.FloridaHealth.gov.
