MCSD Steps Right Up for National School Lunch Week
Martin County School District (MCSD) is celebrating National School Lunch Week, October 9-13, 2023, with a "The Great Outdoors" theme. The week is dedicated to celebrating the importance of school nutrition programs in students' lives and the many individuals who make them possible.
Students across MCSD were encouraged to "step right up" and enjoy nutritious meals while learning about healthy eating and outdoor adventures. "The Great Outdoors" theme provided a fun and engaging way to highlight the connection between healthy food, physical activity, and overall well-being.
"National School Lunch Week is a fantastic opportunity to recognize the hard work of our food service professionals and to engage our students in conversations about nutrition," said Superintendent Dr. Lori Wright. "We believe that providing healthy and delicious meals is fundamental to our students' success both in and out of the classroom."
Throughout the week, schools featured special menus with kid-friendly options that aligned with the "The Great Outdoors" theme. Activities included themed decorations, interactive games, and educational components about where food comes from and the benefits of eating a balanced diet. Students also had the chance to participate in "Taste of the Week" samplings, encouraging them to try new fruits and vegetables.
MCSD's Food Service Department plays a vital role in ensuring that students have access to nutritious meals every school day. These programs not only combat food insecurity but also contribute to improved academic performance, better concentration, and overall health for students. The district is committed to offering a variety of healthy choices that meet stringent nutritional standards, while also being appealing to students.
