A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Oktibbeha County, effective immediately from October 9 at 1:00 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jackson MS. This warning indicates that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. The warning is set to expire on October 9 at 9:00 PM UTC.

Residents should plan for hazardous winds, with peak forecasts of 15-25 mph and gusts up to 35 mph, potentially reaching 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Secure loose outdoor objects, including porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, to prevent damage. Be aware of potential limited damage to trees and signs, and prepare for possible scattered power and communications outages. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Prepare for moderate flooding from heavy rain. Rivers and tributaries may quickly swell, and some areas may experience rapid inundation in low-lying spots. Consider protective actions if you are in a flood-vulnerable area, and heed all flood watches and warnings. Driving conditions may become hazardous, and some road closures are possible. Tornadoes are not expected at this time, but showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed of the latest forecasts.
