A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Oktibbeha County by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS, effective October 9 at 4:09 AM CDT. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.

Residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous wind conditions, with potential gusts up to 35 mph, and scattered power outages. Property protection efforts, including securing loose outdoor objects, should be underway now. Moderate rainfall flooding is also a significant threat, with 2-4 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts possible. A Flood Watch is in effect. Be prepared for potential evacuations and rescues, as rivers and small streams may overflow, leading to hazardous driving conditions and some road closures. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

The NWS indicates tornadoes are not expected at this time. The Tropical Storm Watch is in effect until October 9, 2026, at 12:15 PM UTC.
