Farragut Lower School Focuses on Reading, Math, Science

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. — Farragut's Lower School, serving students from kindergarten through seventh grade, builds learning on core academics and innovative teaching. Small class sizes allow for personalized instruction in reading, mathematics and science.

Reading instruction follows Science of Reading principles. Mathematics uses the Singapore Math approach, emphasizing deep thinking and problem-solving. Science education aligns with Next Generation Science Standards, incorporating hands-on experiments and design challenges.

The curriculum also integrates project-based learning in STEM, Spanish, art and music, connecting classroom concepts to local environments like Boca Ciega Bay and the community's arts scene.

Farragut emphasizes character development and social-emotional learning through dedicated programs and family partnerships. The school aims to cultivate integrity, resilience and compassion, developing students who can collaborate, think critically and contribute positively.

By the end of seventh grade, Farragut aims for students to be academically prepared, globally minded leaders of character and lifelong learners.

Lasant Ordoñez, an AFA alumna and current parent, praised the school. "I know the faculty and staff care very much about the kids and have high expectations for them," Ordoñez said. "Farragut has been my second home since I was 10 years old. It's a wonderful place!"
