Tropical Storm Watch Issued for San Diego County Mountains
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for San Diego County Mountains, including Julian and Pine Valley, warning of hazardous winds and major flooding potential through October 11. Prepare for high winds, potential property damage, and significant rainfall.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the San Diego County Mountains, including Julian and Pine Valley, effective immediately through October 11 at 4:15 AM UTC. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA issued the alert at 8:05 PM PDT on October 10.
Residents in these areas should prepare for hazardous winds between 39 to 57 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph. Limited wind damage to property, tree limbs, and some utility outages are possible. Complete efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with potential for an additional 1-3 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to major rainfall flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small waterways may overflow, and destructive runoff in mountain areas could cause rockslides and mudslides. Residents in flood-prone areas should strongly consider protective actions. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
Tornadoes are not expected, though gusty winds from showers and thunderstorms may still occur. For more information and updates, visit sdcountyemergency.com.
