Coastal Flood Warning & Beach Hazards for San Diego, Orange Counties
A Coastal Flood Warning and Beach Hazards Statement are in effect for San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas, bringing significant flooding, beach erosion, and dangerous surf conditions. Take action to protect property and avoid hazardous waters.
Residents and visitors in San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas are advised to take immediate action to protect flood-prone property as a Coastal Flood Warning is in effect until 3 PM PDT Sunday, October 11.
The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA has issued a Beach Hazards Statement from Sunday morning through Sunday evening, with surf expected to reach 5 to 7 feet, and local sets up to 9 feet. A Coastal Flood Advisory will follow from 3 PM Sunday until 2 PM PDT Tuesday.
Significant coastal flooding and beach erosion are likely, particularly during morning high tides. This may result in the closure of numerous roads and beach boardwalks. Low-lying properties, including homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure, are at risk of flooding.
Hazardous swimming conditions are expected due to elevated surf and a high risk of rip currents. The NWS advises remaining out of the water. If travel is necessary, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
The greatest impacts are anticipated Sunday morning from Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel, bringing a combination of increased swell, onshore winds, and high tides locally over 7.5 feet. High tides are expected to decrease daily into the middle of next week.
