Red Flag Warning Issued for Region: High Fire Danger Expected Friday

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for a wide region, including the Black Hills and surrounding plains, from 11 AM to 8 PM MDT Friday due to gusty winds and low humidity, making outdoor burning highly dangerous.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Central Black Hills, Southern Black Hills, Fall River County Area, Northern Foot Hills, Eastern Foot Hills, Custer County Plains, Pine Ridge Area, Butte County Area, West Central Plains, Badlands Area, Northern Campbell, Southern Campbell, Crook County Plains, Weston County Plains, and Wyoming Black Hills. The National Weather Service in Rapid City, SD, issued the warning, which is in effect from 11 AM to 8 PM MDT on Friday.

Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to a combination of strong winds and low relative humidity. Southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, are anticipated. Relative humidity levels could drop as low as 10 percent.

These conditions mean that any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended during this time. A Red Flag Warning signifies that extreme fire behavior is either occurring or will shortly. Residents in the affected areas should take immediate precautions to prevent wildfires.
